Suggested iPhone Enhancements (Clock/Calculator/Notes)
Clock
- Allow the user to set more than one timer and optionally specify titles to each. Multiple timers would be helpful when juggling tasks - turn off sprinklers 30 minutes, take dinner out of oven 20 minutes, and call Mom back 1 hour.
Calculator
- Turn the calculator into a multi-function application like the clock. Add buttons along the bottom for the calculator, a unit converter (from the Mac OS X Unit Converter -- area, currency, energy, temperature, time, length, weight, speed, pressure, power, volume), tip calculator (bill amount, tip percent, bill split, etc).
- Add separator commas to more clearly display numbers in the thousands.
- Add a backspace button to delete mistakenly typed numbers.
Notes
- Allow users to change the name assigned to notes rather than only using the first words in the note.
- Have phone numbers that appear in notes launch the Phone application when tapped.
- Have URLs that appear in notes launch to the Safari application when tapped.
- Make the font configurable.
Anyone interested in reporting a iphone calendar alert/alarm bug? I'm not a member of the apple bug report brigade so I can't do it.
Say you have a meeting at 10am tomorrow. You set the calendar alert to remind you one hour before. Say you want to sleep in tomorrow, too. You set your alarm for 9am. Bad news. The calendar alarm will sound one hour before your 10am meeting. It won't wake you, at least it didn't wake me. The alarm will NOT sound. When you do finally get up, you will find your iphone asleep. Waking it will display the calendar alert. Apparently the alarm cannot sound with an alert on the screen. Bad Bad Bad. I really really liked my iphone. Now I cannot use the alarm with confidence unless I remember to make sure to check the calendar for a possible conflict. Sigh.
Yes, I've had this calendar alert and alarm conflict happen to me as well! :-(
Also, there should be a way to manually set the duration of the reminder alert. The presets are 5, 15, 30 mins, 1 & 2 hrs and 1 or 2 days... What if I wanted to be reminded 3 days before? or more specifically 20 hrs before?!
Finally, the short and soft beeps are difficult to hear if you're on the go and the iphone is in your pocket. There should be a way to change the ALERT beep to the same ALARM sounds that will ring until you manually turn it off (or atleast give you options to control that).
